There are so many newspapers and magazines in the Western World. However, when come to the report of international events, they seem to provide the public with only one view from one angle of an event most of the time. It puzzle me how these could have happened in the supposedly “FREE” world if media are not subjected to some form of control?
For example, the recent military coup that overthrown an elected government in Honduras hardly drawn the condemnation of any so-called “Free” world leaders nor the main stream “Free” world media (including Australia media). Why? Don’t these people interested in defending “democracy” across the globe? In fact, America is the master mind behind this Coup in Honduras with the intention to control the resources in Latin America. Click the following links for info hardly mentioned by the Corporate Western Medias:

As an outsider of the media industry, the lack of:
(1) variety of view in the main stream western media industry to operate in the public interest; and
(2) the lack of reasonable opportunity for the discussion of conflicting views on issues of public importance
have been troubling me for years. I actively searching the Internet for news on the same event reported by a variety of sources, and found some interesting sites. For examples,
· The Canadian base research center- Global Research often research on issues they claim not covered by the “Main Stream” Western Media.
· The American base AlterNet with the same research objective, often research on issues they claim not covered by the “Corporate media”.
· Also, the New Zealander base publication—Uncensored also complaint about the selective report of the mainstream or corporate media.
· In fact, if one spend enough time on the internet searching for information, they will uncover thousand of websites created by volunteers, NGOs or activists who have been disgusted by the way media is control in the “Free” World, and would like to add their voice to air the part of the news not reported or distorted by the main stream or corporate media. Just to name a few more of these sites:
· The Real News Network- http://therealnews.com/t/
· Democracy Now - http://www.democracynow.org/
· Dissident Voice - http://dissidentvoice.org/
· Information Clearing House: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/
· Anti-War - http://www.antiwar.com/

(Note: I will recommend more sites in other articles.)
Obviously, there must be some kind of media control in the supposedly “Free” world. But how?
The recent research by the Australia National University (ANU) may shed some light on this issue. According to researchers from the ANU (2 Sept 2009, SMH), “the more a political party spent on advertising with a media outlet, the more favourable the media coverage.” The report also found that “editors were more likely to take a political line” (that is, lacking the objectivity in their editing process).
Unfortunately, this ANU research focus mainly on the domestic politics in Australia, not international issues, therefore, this research only explain part of the reason behind the lack of objectivity in our media industry:
(1) Money influence;
(2) Editors’ political line.
The above factors did not explain how so many media outlets across the western world reporting the same International event with such similarity in the used of story angle and opinion, including the use of fabricated images and interviews?
In 2008, the way China was deliberately abused by the Western Media on a daily basis with fabricated images, untruthful information and complete bias stirred up the emotion of many righteous people across the world to defence China. Just a few examples:
· Global Research article - Western Media Fabrications regarding the Tibet Riots - Fake Videotape used by CNN - 16 April 2008 by Prof. Michel Chossudovsky (Canadian).
· YouTube Video: Tibet (The Truth) - A Political History, by an American Hollywood Producer, 5 April 2008
· YouTube Video: Free Tibet! The real Tibet may have you shocked! By another 2 Americans who knew the truth, 1 April 2008
· The creation of Anti-CNN website in 2008 by a 23 year old office worker in China to collect information from thousand of volunteers all over the world on information with regards to media distortion against China. Unfortunately, this site is mainly in Chinese language.
Myself, a proud Australia citizen, born in Singapore with father born in Indonesia also ‘traumatised’ by the daily abuse of China by the Western Media with false and selective information, and decided to enrol in a Journalist Course to add my voice in this great ANTI-Media Disinformation Movement by the World Citizens.
However, my good intention met with unbelievable oppression by the media industry in Australia. Click on: How I Become An Outcast Journalist in the “Free” World for detail of my story. Check out the content of the assignment that got me into trouble with my tutor and then Mr. Joseph Morris, the director of the Morris Journalism Academy and the parent companies - International News Syndicate Limited (INS) and Australia News and Feature Services P/L (ANFS), and decide by yourself if Freedom of Speech and Expression already death in the ‘Free’ world?
If you click on International News Syndicate website (INS) or Australian News and Feature Services website (ANFS), you will notice that INS is the parent company of three distance learning Journalism Colleges:
· The American College of Journalism
· The British College of Journalism
· The Morris Journalism Academy - (Australia, New Zealand and the South-Pacific region)
Their website under “information for media-buyer” claimed that they have “freelancers in 80 countries and territories “.
Joseph Morris, the Director of INS (register in Hong Kong) in his e-mail correspondents with me during our “dispute” claimed to have 25,000 editors (at least 4800 editors) under their syndication service (refer to my 9000 word statements to the Anti-Discrimination Commission for detail.)
The scary thing is, I have been successfully graduated and accredited by the Journalism Academy owe by Joseph Morris, and was supposedly be able to begin to enjoy all the benefits as an accredited freelancer promised by Morris Journalism Academy in print before paying the $1095 of enrolment fee. However, my right as an accredited member of INS and ANFS was effectively deprived by Joseph Morris upon my graduation on the 27 January 2009 as a result of the content of one of the 10 assignments I submitted to the Academy. Even though Joseph Morris never officially acknowledged the reason behind his decision to ban my right to write anything political (through his General Manager Email dated 23 March 2009) was due to the content of that assignment, however, with the support of logical thinking and analysis, I have good reason to believe that it is a form of media control by Joseph Morris to prevent variety of view in the media industry. The detail of this logical analysis is provided in my story: How I Become An Outcast Journalist in The “Free” World.
This incident, I believe provided me some insight into how media is control through syndication service in the so-called “Free” world. It would be reasonable for me to conclude that, Joseph Morris is in the business to decide on behalf of thousands of editors in his syndication service what editors should read and published.
Ben Scott, Jeff Perlstein and David Mathison in their research for the Book: “Be The Media (2009), chapter 22” notice that “A small handful of huge corporations dominates America media - in both production and distribution.”
According to their research: “When Ben Bagdikian published the first edition of The Media Monopoly in 1983, the United State had fifty dominant media corporations. When the fifth edition of his book was published in 1997, that number had shrunk to ten. As of this writing, only six corporations control most major media in the United States. They are General Electric, Time Warner Inc., The Walt Disney Company, Viacom, CBS, and The News Corporation, the latter headquartered in Australia. According to Bagdikian, these corporations “decide what most citizens will or will not learn.””
Ben, Jeff and David also notice that: “Worse than the change in corporate media ownership concentration is the change in motivation, for private profit has eclipsed public service. Today’s media system is set up to maximize profit for a handful of large companies, and does so extraordinarily well. The system, however, is a disaster for the communication requirements of a healthy society.”
“The problem is not personal; it is systemic…...”
“In reality, each of the giant media dominating firms is the recipient of massive corporate welfare. Explicit government policies, regulations, and subsidies have pave the avenue down which they have strolled to their gargantuan financial success.”
“We citizens, through our elected representatives, our lobbyists, and our own lack of watchfulness, have authorised our government to lease our public resources to media companies, such as monopoly licenses to the public airwaves for radio, television, and the wireless spectrum. …”.
“When a government provides a firm with one or more of these services, it is virtually a license to print money.”
The above information provided by the book “Be The Media” could have been the reason why most mainstream Western Media seem to toll the line of the American government foreign policy, and the willingness to demonizing countries not towing the line of interest of the western governments, in particularly the United State of America.
This is perhaps the reason why Australian Journalist, Margo Kingston in her book ’Not Happy, John! - Defending our democracy’ (2004), complaint about former Prime Minister John Howard giving “the Media Moguls control of ALL our news”
During the 2008 Beijing’s Olympic, it was reported by the Hong Kong base Phoenix TV that, a German Journalist in Beijing resigned in protest against his editor on-going refusal to publish any of his report in favour of China.
On 13 February 2009, it was reported by WA Today that, in a recent interview, dumped West Australian editor Paul Armstrong says “a difference in opinions led to his departure from the newspaper”. Mr. Armstrong further evaluate that: "That's business, that's life ... You've got to accept that this job more often than not ends in sudden circumstances."
I am an amateur in this media industry, so, I can only use my own recent very bad personal experience with the media industry in Australia and the research of other journalists or analysts trying to make sense of what has gone wrong with the media industry in the supposedly “Free” world?
